Colombia: Santa Marta and Parque Nacional Tayrona

You´ll never know who you´ll meet upon landing in Colomiba... PIBE!!!

In Santa Marta we met up with our good friends Andres and Maja from British Colombia who have the cutest Colombian-Bosnian-Canadian kids ever: Aidan and Jovan. We miss you!

Got to spend a couple of days together at the mouth of the Rio Piedras as it meets the sea. Here´s the Rio Piedras looking south towards the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
Little champions learning to swim in the river...

...Aidan, House and Jovan ...
...with the incredible waves of the Caribbean just steps away.
When we weren´t swimming, we ate free mangos.Jovan the mango monster showing us how it´s done!
Aidan´s favorite spot.
Too cute for words!
Sunset in the port of Santa Marta, with Dole fruit-laden boats taboot.
Shaved ice and the beach in Santa Marta
Everywhere in Colombia, but especially on coast, vendors, waiters, shop owners all greet you with ¨A la orden...¨ (at your order/service). Santa Marta`s lively nights are filled with loud music coming from huge speakers and people sitting out on the street talking.
Here´s a couple of street scenes:

what Tony Hawk?
After a couple days in town, we headed out to trek in another part of Tayrona Park...
Which ended up being a beautiful exercise in sweating bullets on the way to the coast
The entire beach to ourselves and free coconuts!
Another beach where we stayed for 2 nights: sweat, swim, sleep, eat, repeat.
Almost all to ourselves.
Yet another beach, and still no one. Love it!
After the stint in the park, we got our diving certifications out of Taganga. The extra perk: free casba cliff camping for 2 nights during the course (even with Adirondack chairs on rockers!).
Fishermen from whom we bought fish a couple of coves away.
What an experience! Another world just opened up...Here´s our Venezuelan instructor Otto to the right and his photos of one of our dives:

You'll never get out of this maze ...
